@nelaime

sounds like you're really new to this.
first you'll want to download the RAR archive from this site.
next you'll need to extract the RAR and for that you'll need an extractor like Winzip, Winrar or 7zip.
you'll need a player to watch the video like VLC media player or Media Player Classic.
You'll want all the codecs too so download the k lite codec pack.
most everything you need is free on the net just Google it.
don't be afraid to Google your setup questions too. there's lots of info on the web.
good luck!

If you did download a .exe file you didn't get it here so delete it. It could be a virus hiding inside.

@DR DOOM

always makes me uncomfortable when someone asks a question that makes little sense. if he downloaded an .exe file he didn't get it here so why ask here about how to watch the video.
Makes me think someone is just asking a setup question. only in it for the lulz. :(

Wow. yeah I guess that could happen.
I have pretty much from the start used a download manager so I don't really deal with page redirects and the possibility of clicking on a fake link to a malsite.
I have a premium account at uploaded.net and always use my adblock so my user experience is always very pleasant.
Hope things work out for her OK before anything bad happens that she'll regret.

Jay77 has the correct answer for the problem you describe from hosts, sometime it is just a download manager sometimes it is a virus.
The cause? several download buttons or a tick box that states use a download manager.
Lastly there is a site that requires you to click 3 times, 1.pop up window 2.exe file 3. the file you want.
Uploaded gives you a Download Manager box you have to UN-tick this does not show up every time so watch carefully.

Inside a rar ? still the same problem. presuming it was actually from a file hoster

@BobDobbs
Sysinternals' Autoruns program is a great suggestion, i use this and so do most computer repair shops. (not recommended for beginners)
Re installing your operating system as general maintenance every 2 years is a good idea, Unless you have windows 98 all viruses can be removed by professionals.

I agree it is difficult to remotely fix a problem without seeing the actual problem.
There is some great advice here and i would like to thank everyone for trying to help. :)

I agree with BobDobbs

If things seem wrong and you think you might be infected do a clean install and start over again fresh.

I know that reinstalling is time consuming but it would be worth it in the end.

I disagree with whoever said "this site" has buttons you can click on that will download malware straight on to your computer. It's the file hosting sites like HugeFiles or Uploaded.net that have the buttons you click on that will download malware onto your computer.

But it's not the file hosts that are doing it it's people (hackers) who want to make your file sharing experience suck and scare you away from file sharing.

People (hackers) find an exploit in the file hosts web page and inject code there. This is why you see 2 or 3 DOWNLOAD HERE buttons. 2 of the buttons are easter eggs that will download malware onto your computer.

That's also why you see "USE OUR DOWNLOAD EXCELLERATOR" or "USE OUR DOWNLOAD MANAGER" those are also easter eggs that if you click on those will download malware onto your computer.

I've been using a program called Jdownloader for a few years now. I never have to go to the file hosts web page to begin my download. The links are automatically loaded from this site into Jdownloader. Click start and enter the captcha and the download begins. Quickly and safely.

You can't be tricked into clicking on the wrong button if you never visit the file hosts website.

@Me

I don't know enough about this stuff to say for sure. But a quick read on-line and I see what you're saying makes sense. You might be on to the answer.

The first time I extracted a download I chose to associate this type of file with WinRAR and always open this type of file with WinRAR and that's when all my file extentions changed to the WinRAR type and I see the WinRAR icon on the left side of the file name:

FILE NAME: g.s05e18.480p.u673226.Rapidmoviez.com
TYPE: WinRAR archive

I have file extensions hidden by default otherwise you'd see g.s05e18.480p.u673226.Rapidmoviez.com.rar

So if you're right associate your extraction tool - WinRAR, WinZip or 7zip to alway extract this type of file and you should be good to go.

on the other hand I see NOWHERE anything that says I have an .exe so I'm still a bit doubtful

keep trying to figure it out Me. you're doing O.K.
I've learned so much by having problems and then setting out to solve the problem. it's a good feeling once you do figure it out and you can apply what you learn to future problems

take some time away from the problem then go back to it. sometimes that works for me. just don't give up altogether.

@Me

You use words like: "since the 2nd line of the download box says save as Winrar archive, but it instead insists on saving as a .com file and showing the MS-DOS file icon"

This totally confuses me. If you're doing it right you should be copy and pasting the download link from this site into your browsers address bar.

At the file hosts site and after solving the captcha and clicking on the download link and waiting a few seconds a .RAR should begin to download.

That's what should happen. There are no dialogue boxes with or without a 2nd line asking how you'd like to save anything.

Once you have the .rar fully downloaded and if you're using WinRAR you'd next right click on the .rar file and from the drop down list choose Extract Here. The .rar sould extract leaving you with the contents of the .rar - the .mkv an .nfo and two internet shortcut links.

Unless you particular setup is so different than everyone elses what is happening to you shouldn't be happening.

Maybe you should try Jdownloader. This is a software program that will automatically download your shows and extract the .rar all you need to do is copy the download link and press play on Jdownloader.

If it helps you can think of Jdownloader for DDL the same way you'd think of Utorrent for torrenting.

You'll need to in stall Java if you don't have it and you might need WinRAR installed too if you want it to extract your .rar files automatically. Also make sure Clipboard Monitoring is on if you want the links loaded automatically.

You can download Jdownloader for free from this site:

http://www.oldversion.com/windows/jdownloader/

I've been using Jdownloader since 2009 and it really does make downloading so much faster and more importantly safer.

O.K. now we're getting somewhere. You said in an earlier comment the the "download dialogue box" was asking you where to save the file. Now you're saying it's when you are extracting the .rar that makes more sense.

I do have my computer set up to download to one folder I unrar in that folder and then from that folder I move the files to other locations on my HDD depending on if I want to save them forever or watch only once and delete etc.

Yes, you don't have to do that. But now it's making a lot more sense. At least we know you don't have malware or an executable file on your computer. You're O.K. there.

Sorry if my other comment sounded harsh or unfriendly I didn't mean it to sound that way.

One more thing. you're right. I do have my computer set up to download to one folder on one drive only. Been doing that for so long I forgot that there is a dialogue box that opens asking where to save the file to if that's your choice. My apologies for that as well.

That's exactly how it works for me DR DOOM exactly.

I've chosen to hide file extensions for known types so all I see after I've downloaded the file is
ie. g.s05e18.720p.u673470.Rapidmoviez.com

However, when I extract the .rar (ie. g.s05e18.720p.u673470.Rapidmoviez.com) what I get is the .mkv that's inside the .rar along with a .info file and two internet shortcuts. Nothing with a file extension .exe

This has been a fun exercise in futility but I don't think anyone is gonna solve this.

I think he has no virus or malware to worry about and if he has some trick to fool the .com to look like a .rar or whatever so he can extract it. He'll be good.
